Recommended configuration: the UHF version (400-470 MHz) suits most site, security and urban teams. Choose VHF (136-174 MHz) if your existing radio fleet or licence is VHF, common on farms, in forestry and across rural networks.
Overview
What happens to your team's comms when half the crew is on site and the other half is out on the road? The Hytera PDC580 answers that in one handheld. It is a DMR digital and analogue radio, a push-to-talk over cellular (PoC) radio over 4G, a call recorder and a voice gateway, all in one rugged IP67 body.
Your crew keeps using local radio coverage on site, switches to the mobile network when they leave it, and nobody has to carry two devices or learn a new way of working. For Bay of Plenty businesses running an existing UHF or VHF fleet, it is a practical way to add nationwide reach without ripping out the radios you already own.
Key Features
- DMR, analogue and PoC in one radio means one device covers local site comms and nationwide 4G calls for teams split between the yard, the site and the road.
- PoC and DMR Simul-Call means one press of the main PTT reaches users on both networks at once for supervisors and dispatchers who need everyone to hear the same instruction.
- PoC-to-DMR voice gateway means your existing DMR and analogue radios can talk to PoC users through the PDC580 for organisations moving to broadband gradually rather than replacing a whole fleet in one go.
- 5 W direct-mode radio fallback means you still have radio-to-radio comms if the mobile network drops for emergency, volunteer and utility teams working through storms and outages.
- Up to 99 dB audio with noise and wind reduction means instructions cut through traffic, machinery, wind and rain for construction, rail, port and roading crews.
- IP67, MIL-STD-810H and 1.5 m drop rating, operating down to -30°C means it handles rain, dust, drops and frosty starts for outdoor crews in tough NZ conditions.
- 3,000 mAh battery with USB Type-C fast charging means a full shift on one charge and up to 8 hours of use from a 30-minute top-up (Hytera figure) for shift workers who can't wait around for a charger.
- GPS, Galileo, GLONASS and BeiDou positioning plus Bluetooth 5.3 means location data for dispatchers and wireless audio accessories for users who want the radio off their shoulder.

Watch the PDC580 in Action
Hytera's launch video introduces the PDC580 dual-mode rugged radio. In short: DMR and analogue radio for local coverage, PoC over 4G for nationwide reach, Simul-Call to reach both networks with one press, and a voice gateway that links your existing radio fleet to PoC users.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Hytera PDC580 waterproof?
The Hytera PDC580 is rated IP67, which means it is dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion in water. It is also tested to MIL-STD-810H for drops, vibration and shock, and operates from -30°C to +60°C.
Do I need a radio licence to use the PDC580?
You need a radio licence to use the PDC580's DMR and analogue radio channels in New Zealand, as they run on licensed UHF or VHF frequencies. PoC calls use the mobile network instead, so they need a SIM and a PoC platform subscription rather than a radio licence. MSL can program the radio onto your existing licence or help you arrange one.
How long does the PDC580 battery last?
The PDC580's 3,000 mAh battery is designed by Hytera to cover a full working shift. Real-world life depends on how much you transmit and how much time you spend on PoC versus radio. If the battery runs low, a 30-minute USB Type-C charge gives up to 8 hours of use, according to Hytera.
Does the PDC580 work when there is no mobile coverage?
The PDC580 still works without mobile coverage, because its DMR and analogue radio keeps running on your local radio channels. That gives your team radio-to-radio comms during a network outage or in a black spot, within normal radio range.
Who is the PDC580 for?
The PDC580 is for organisations that already run UHF or VHF radio and want to add nationwide PoC without replacing their fleet. Think utilities, councils, ports, security firms, emergency and volunteer groups, and contractors working across multiple sites.
Which mobile networks does the PDC580 support?
The PDC580 supports the main LTE bands used by New Zealand's mobile networks, including Band 28 (700 MHz), which carries much of the rural coverage. Coverage in your area depends on the network and SIM you choose, so ask us before you commit to a plan.
Can the PDC580 talk to my existing Hytera or other DMR radios?
The PDC580 can talk to existing DMR and analogue radios on the same band and channels. Used as a voice gateway, it can also bridge those radios to PoC users on the mobile network, so your whole team stays on one conversation.
