RFI CD29-138166-50 – 138–166MHz Broadband Ground Independent Mopole
with MBC Base (Tapered Stainless Steel Radiator)
The RFI CD29-138166-50 is a high-performance VHF broadband Mopole antenna designed for professional two-way radio applications. Its ground independent design and rugged stainless steel radiator make it ideal for fleet, emergency, and commercial use.
Overview
The CD29-138166-50 is a broadband VHF Mopole antenna covering 138–166MHz, supplied with an MBC base. Its no-tune design eliminates the need to tune in the field, reducing installation costs and complexity while improving coverage across the whole band.
The tapered stainless steel radiator is highly flexible and resistant to knocks and bends, and the ground independent design means it doesn't rely on a large metal ground plane, useful for alternative mounting positions.
Need a different VHF sub-band? This antenna is also part of a wider CD29 series, see "Other Bands in This Series" below.
Key Features
- Wideband coverage across 138–166MHz means one antenna covers the whole band with no field tuning, for installers working through multiple vehicles on a schedule.
- 3dB gain Mopole design means stronger signal than a standard unity-gain whip, without needing a ground plane.
- Heavy-duty tapered stainless steel whip means long service life and resistance to knocks and bends, for vehicles working in rough conditions.
- Shock-absorbing spring base means better durability in demanding environments, for fleets that take a beating on rough roads.
- Easy mounting with MBC base system means a straightforward install using a widely supported mount standard.
Applications
- Commercial and government fleet vehicles
- Emergency service vehicles
- Utility and transport communications
- Alternative mounting positions where a full ground plane isn't available

Complete Your Setup
This antenna's MBC base still needs a mounting bracket and cable kit to complete the install, and the FME connector at the base needs an extension cable. None of these are currently listed in our store, get in touch and we'll help you put together the right combination.

Other Bands in This Series
The CD29 series covers several VHF sub-bands. If 138–166MHz isn't your operating frequency, see CD29-148174-50 (148-174MHz, MBC base), CD29-148174-53 (148-174MHz, MBC base with 5m cable), or CD29-148174-00 (148-174MHz, whip only). These are different frequency bands, not direct substitutes, so pick the one that matches your licensed frequency.

FAQs
Does this need a large ground plane to work?
No, the ground independent design means it performs reliably without a large metal ground plane, useful for alternative mounting positions.
Does the antenna need field tuning?
No, the CD29 series uses a no-tune broadband design that covers the whole band straight out of the box.
Does the antenna include cable and connector?
The MBC base has an FME female connector, but an extension cable and mounting bracket are sold separately. Get in touch and we'll help you put together the right setup.
What does the gain figure mean in practice?
The CD29-138166-50 is rated at 3dB gain per RFI's CD29 Series specification sheet, giving a real improvement over a standard unity-gain whip.
Can Mobile Systems Limited install this antenna?
