Overview
The COL18 is a "cut to frequency" collinear antenna covering the 144-175MHz VHF band, electrically identical to the COL4 but built with a ruggedised heavy-duty black fibreglass radome for use in the most extreme climatic conditions. The radome design (originally engineered as sailboard mast material) is immensely strong, and its black colouring maximises solar heat retention, significantly aiding ice shedding.
The antenna is internally DC grounded for lightning protection and reduction of static noise, and is specifically designed to maintain stable vertical radiation pattern characteristics at the extremities of its tuned bandwidth, ensuring reciprocity of transmit and receive signal characteristics.
