VHF Base Station Antenna, 130–150MHz

Base station antenna for repeater and community radio sites. Ships with a 4.3-10 female connector and cable tail as standard.

Overview

The RFI SMD20-36-P is a Low PIM VHF base station antenna built for the 130–150MHz band, the range used across many NZ repeater and community radio sites. It's designed for permanent installation on masts and towers, and it's built to handle serious transmit power without breaking a sweat.

Every unit ships with a 4.3-10 female connector and cable tail. No tuning is required on site, the antenna covers the entire band straight out of the box.

If your site needs more coverage or a shaped pattern, the SMD20-36-P can be phased into dual arrays for 3dBd gain, or four-stack arrays for 6dBd gain, using the appropriate phasing harness.

Key Features

  • Full 130–150MHz coverage with no tuning required means faster installs and one less thing to get wrong on site, for network techs setting up VHF infrastructure.
  • Low PIM rating better than -150dBc means cleaner signal and less interference on shared or multi-operator sites, for repeater site managers running several transmitters off one tower.
  • 4.3-10 female connector with cable tail means a low-loss, high-power connection that matches today's low PIM system standards, for anyone building a modern VHF network.
  • Rated to 750W input power means the antenna handles serious transmit power without drama, for high-power public safety and commercial radio systems.
  • Welded aluminium construction with an alodined finish means it stands up to a Bay of Plenty coastal environment and years on an exposed hilltop site, for operators who need gear that lasts.
  • DC grounded design means built-in protection against static build-up and help dissipating a lightning strike, for anyone running exposed mast-top infrastructure.
  • Phaseable into 3dBd or 6dBd gain arrays means one antenna can flex from a single-site fix to a full multi-antenna array as your coverage needs grow, for network designers planning ahead.

Applications

  • Public safety and emergency services radio networks
  • Repeater and community radio sites
  • Utility, transport, and local government communications
  • Mining and industrial site infrastructure
  • Commercial and telecommunications radio operators

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the SMD20-36-P built to handle a Bay of Plenty coastal or exposed hilltop site?

Yes. It's welded aluminium with an alodined finish, and it's DC grounded for lightning and static protection, so it's built for permanent outdoor installation on exposed masts, towers, and coastal sites.

What connector does the SMD20-36-P use?

It ships with a 4.3-10 female connector and cable tail as standard, giving a low-loss, high-power connection.

Does this antenna need a radio licence?

The antenna itself doesn't need a licence, but the VHF frequencies it operates on are managed by Radio Spectrum Management in New Zealand, so check your network's spectrum licence covers the 130–150MHz band before deployment.

Does the antenna require field tuning?

No. It provides full-band coverage across 130–150MHz without any tuning required, which simplifies both installation and future network changes.

Can this antenna be phased into an array for more gain?

Yes. Using the appropriate phasing harness, multiple SMD20-36-P antennas can be combined into dual arrays for approximately 3dBd gain, or four-stack arrays for approximately 6dBd gain, with a shaped coverage pattern.

Can Mobile Systems Limited design a complete repeater site around this antenna?

Yes. We design, supply, install, and maintain complete repeater systems, including antennas, feeders, combiners, duplexers, towers, and radio equipment throughout New Zealand.
