How It Keeps You Connected
Its multi-bearer capabilities keep users connected in ways a standard mobile radio cannot. As you would expect, it lets you communicate with dispatch and fellow workers through digital radio, but it can also communicate through cellular and, on select configurations, satellite.
This means that no matter where a vehicle is located, odds are it will be able to connect through one of those bearers. It also acts as a relay, so users are no longer tied to the radio microphone in the vehicle, connecting remotely via a smartphone app and WiFi instead.
A Mobile Hotspot at the Edge of Coverage
Tait Unified Vehicle can also act as a mobile WiFi hotspot, giving access to the web even at the edge of coverage. Most field workers carry a smartphone connected to a 4G or 5G network, giving them access to applications that boost productivity wherever they go, but smartphones have relatively weak antennas and do not have the range of a proper mobile radio.
Its powerful receiver connects to data networks in places smartphones simply cannot reach. As long as a smartphone is connected via WiFi, typically up to 60 to 100 metres with an external antenna and clear line of sight, it has access to mobile data even at the edge of coverage.
An Open Platform for Custom Applications
Tait Unified Vehicle provides an open platform for running or building applications that increase efficiency. Tait offers several applications out of the box, including a remote-control app, over-the-air programming (OTAP) over WiFi, a voice recorder, and asset management via Bluetooth.
Because it uses an open platform, open APIs, and a software development kit (AppBuilder), dealers, users, IT departments, or anyone with a creative mind for solving problems can build applications specific to their own business, much like they would for a smartphone.

Consider a field service technician with reports to file after a rural site visit, with the office 45 minutes away in traffic. Rather than drive back, they use a laptop connected via WiFi to the vehicle's unit, filing reports with text, images, and video through an application built by a local dealer, then get moving again while the reports upload in the background. Saving 15 to 45 minutes a day like this can meaningfully increase time spent on the actual job rather than travelling to and from an office.
