Overview

The BlackVue DR970X is BlackVue's 4K dashcam, recording the road ahead in 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) at 30fps through an 8.4MP Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. Four times the pixels of Full HD means more detail when you pause and zoom, which is what you want when the question is a number plate or a road sign.

The 2 Channel version adds a Full HD rear camera. H.265 compression keeps 4K files smaller than older codecs, and dual-band Wi-Fi makes downloading footage to your phone quicker.

Is the BlackVue DR970X true 4K?
Yes, the DR970X front camera records native 4K UHD at 3840 x 2160 and 30fps using an 8.4MP Sony STARVIS 2 sensor. The rear camera on the 2 Channel version records Full HD 1080p at 30fps.

Does the DR970X record while the vehicle is parked?
Yes, the DR970X records in parking mode when hardwired to a constant power supply, and the hardwiring kit is included in the box. It records impacts and motion while parked, and the built-in voltage cut-off helps protect the vehicle battery.

Should I choose the DR970X or the DR770X?
Choose the DR970X when image detail matters most, as 4K gives far more to zoom into. Choose the BlackVue DR770X if you want smoother 60fps front footage at a lower price, or a dashcam with a higher heat rating for very hot cabs.

Is 128GB or 256GB the right memory size for 4K?
The 256GB card is the better fit for 4K, holding roughly twice as much footage as 128GB before the oldest clips are recorded over. 128GB suits shorter daily trips where footage is checked regularly.

Will the DR970X cope with a hot car in summer?
The DR970X uses a super capacitor rather than a lithium battery and is rated to operate from -20°C to 70°C, with an automatic high-temperature cut-off. In a vehicle parked in full sun for long periods, the DR770X has the higher heat rating.

Do I need a subscription to use it?
No subscription is needed to record or to view footage on your phone over the camera's own Wi-Fi. Remote features such as live view and push alerts use BlackVue Cloud and need an internet connection for the camera, so check BlackVue's current Cloud plan options before relying on them.
