Who This Radio Is For

The HT649 is not a general-purpose radio. It exists for one job: GMDSS (Global Maritime Distress and Safety System) compliance on sea-going vessels. Every SOLAS-class vessel is required to carry GMDSS-approved handhelds in its survival craft, and the HT649 meets that carriage requirement with full MED, IMO and ETSI certification. Its dedicated channel configuration, flashing LED strobe for distress visibility, and sealed primary lithium battery (non-rechargeable, with a defined shelf life for survey purposes) are all specific to the GMDSS role. This is not interchangeable with a standard marine VHF like the HT782M or a hazardous-area radio like the DT885FF. If your vessel needs GMDSS handhelds for survey or inspection, this is the correct product.

Easy to use radio earset

They do what they say they do, easy to use and no extra gear. The main set is the master and needs to be used, just turn them on with charged batteries and they just work. We have tested them to about 400m but really only need them for up to about 100m max and they work really well, easy to hear everyone using them. Once they are on you just talk and listen, there are no buttons to push
We use the single ear so we can hear people not using the sets.
