Helical UHF Stubby Antenna, 378-470MHz
This is the helical stubby we pair with our TP9300 UHF1 radios, so if your radio came from us with a stubby, this is almost certainly the one you need.
Overview
The Tait TPA-AN-038 is a genuine Tait helical ("stubby") antenna, 74mm long and tuned to 378-470MHz. It suits Tait TP9 series UHF1 portables (378-470MHz).
Helical antennas trade a little range for a much shorter profile. If your team values a compact radio that doesn't catch on seatbelts, harnesses or scaffold, a stubby is the right call. If they work at the edge of coverage, go for the whip.
Key Features
- 74mm helical design means a short, snag-resistant antenna for workers who climb, crouch or wear the radio on a chest harness
- Full 378-470MHz coverage means one antenna across the whole UHF1 band for fleets running TP9300 UHF1 radios
- Genuine Tait part means the correct fit for TP9 portables for anyone replacing a lost or damaged stubby
- Screw-on fitting means a swap in seconds with no tools for supervisors keeping spares in the ute
- A matching whip option (TPA-AN-037, 160mm) means you can step up to more range for teams working at the edge of coverage
Compatible With
- Tait TP9310 UHF1 no-keypad portable (380-470MHz)
- Tait TP9355 UHF1 4-key portable (380-470MHz)
- Tait TP9360 UHF1 16-key portable (380-470MHz)
- Tait TP9555 UHF1 4-key portable (380-470MHz)
Match the antenna to the band your radio is built for. A mismatched antenna costs you range.

FAQs
Will the TPA-AN-038 fit my radio?
The TPA-AN-038 fits Tait TP9 series UHF1 portables (378-470MHz). Check the band on your radio's label or product code. If you're unsure, email info@mobilesystems.co.nz with your radio's serial or product code and our Mount Maunganui team will confirm it.
Is a helical antenna worse than a whip?
A helical antenna gives slightly less range than a whip on the same band, in exchange for being much shorter. For most on-site work that trade-off is barely noticed. For users working at the fringe of coverage, the whip is the better choice.
Do I need a licence to use this antenna?
The antenna itself needs no licence, but the radio it's fitted to must operate under a valid radio licence in New Zealand. We can help with licensing and programming when you buy your radios from us.
Can I use this antenna on UHF CB?
No. UHF CB sits at 476-477MHz, which is above this antenna's 378-470MHz range. A TP9 UHF1 radio isn't a UHF CB radio either, so the two don't mix.
