Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity built into current DMR radios means an administrator can push a firmware or channel update to an entire fleet without physically touching a single handset. Older fleets had to be recalled to a depot and connected one at a time, which is exactly why so many businesses simply delayed updates rather than face the hassle, quietly missing out on genuine improvements for years at a time.

As consumers, we expect to be connected every minute of the day. DMR users increasingly expect the same, and current radio sensitivity genuinely delivers wider coverage and clearer audio right to the edge of a network, not just in the middle of it.
This matters more in New Zealand than in flatter markets. Convergence like this is worth having when your team genuinely spans multiple sites or networks. It's not worth paying for if a straightforward DMR radio on one site already does everything your operation needs.
Safety Features Becoming Standard, Not Optional
In consumer technology, yesterday's optional extra is today's standard feature, and two-way radios have followed exactly the same path. A built-in accelerometer for man-down detection, once a costly add-on, now ships on entry-level DMR and PoC hardware as a matter of course.
This isn't a nice-to-have in New Zealand.
